Building Inspections

Yes, generally. City Offices are closed every other Friday. If you call in for an inspection on a Friday that City Offices are closed, or on an observed holiday, your inspection will be scheduled for the following business day. Periodically, inspection staff will receive all day training and inspections will not be held on those dates. During the end of year closure, inspections may still be scheduled. We currently accept inspection requests up until 6:30 a.m. for an inspection that day. In rare instances when there are a high number of requests, some inspections may need to be scheduled for the following day. 

An inspector will contact you between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the day of the inspection.

Special inspections required include air balance and structural steel. Concrete inspections depend on PSI. Consult with the CBC Chapter 17 for all special inspections your project may require. Prior to concealing the work, with your deputy approval, you must request and pass a City inspection for this work. Reference the California Building Code chapters 1 and 17 for further information.

The "Final Building Inspection Passed" status on an "Inspection Summary Report" serves as the Certificate of Occupancy for all residential projects, and most commercial projects. Inspection Summary Reports can be found under the address Street File. 

Some commercial projects require a separate Certificate of Occupancy Form, completed by the assigned building inspector to your project. Contact your inspector for your Certificate of Occupancy for commercial projects.

A "Summary Inspection Report" document is uploaded to the BLD record by your assigned Building Inspector once your project has received a Passed Final Building Inspection.
