Title

Elevated Deck Inspection Program

Body

The elevated deck inspection program ensures public safety by streamlining inspection and repair processes for elevated decks.

State laws Senate Bill (SB) 721 (2018) and SB 326 (2019) require inspections for multi-family and condominium buildings to maintain structural integrity of elevated decks. Qualified professionals, such as licensed architects, engineers, or certified inspectors, must assess buildings with three or more units for signs of deterioration (e.g., corrosion, decay, insect infestation) that may affect load capacity.

The owner or licensed professional must submit a copy of the inspection report and the Deck Inspection Certification form (page 4) to the city by email to CDBuildingCode@SantaBarbaraCA.gov.

Deadline for inspection is January 1, 2026
