Join us in celebrating National Engineers Week, “Design Your Future” February 16-22, which is a celebration of the limitless possibilities in engineering! Did you know that the City of Santa Barbara Public Works Department’s Engineering Division supports the entire City? From the airport to the waterfront and all the streets, bridges, traffic signals, creeks, water and sewer infrastructure in between, the City’s Engineering staff work on it all. Fun Fact: The World’s Largest Engineering Project is the International Space Station! The International Space Station (ISS) holds the title of the world’s largest international cooperative engineering project to date. It’s a joint endeavor involving several countries, including the United States, Russia, Canada, Japan, and the member countries of the European Space Agency.

Did you know the City of Santa Barbara has over 70 staff members in the Public Works Department Engineering Division? Learn more about some of our current staff who design the City we live in!
Brian D’Amour, P.E., Acting Public Works Director

Brian is currently serving as Acting Public Works Director overseeing the Public Works Department. In his permanent role as City Engineer, Brian is responsible for oversight of all engineering functions performed by the organization and supporting all City departments, including the Airport, Waterfront, Parks and Recreation, Public Safety, Downtown Parking, Streets Division, and Water Resources Division. Brian is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 20 years of municipal engineering and consulting engineering experience. He is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Prior to his time with the City of Santa Barbara, Brian served in various private and public sector roles in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. He has been with the City for over 17 years and currently leads the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department.
Ashleigh Sizoo, P.E., Acting City Engineer

Ashleigh is currently serving as Acting City Engineer overseeing the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. In her permanent role as Principal Engineer, Ashleigh leads the Water Resources Engineering team, which manages design and construction of water and wastewater capital projects. After graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (go Mustangs!) with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, she worked for a private civil and traffic engineering firm in Gilroy for over two years before moving to Santa Barbara. Ashleigh started her career at the City as a Project Engineer working on streets and transportation design projects. She is a licensed Professional Engineer and has held multiple roles throughout her more than 16 years with the City. Two major projects that Ashleigh managed through design are the Las Positas/Cliff Roundabout and the Las Positas & Modoc Roads Multiuse Path. Outside of work, Ashleigh enjoys nature photography, seeing live music, and our beautiful coastline.
Taylor Berryman, P.E., Supervising Civil Engineer in the Streets Engineering Team

Taylor has been with the City for over six years and has worked in both Streets Design and Streets Construction groups. Taylor manages a team of three project engineers and two engineering technicians and his own capital improvement projects that promote active transportation, increase safety, address stormwater issues, and improve the environment. Taylor attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and received his B.S. degree in Aquatic Biology. He worked in the environmental field for both the public and private sectors for two years before returning to school at the University of California, Los Angeles where he earned his M.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Outside of work, he plays basketball, golf, and disc golf. Taylor enjoys traveling, kayaking, hiking, and woodworking.
Erica Sevilla, Project Engineer I on the Traffic Engineering Team

Erica Sevilla has been with the City for 7.5 years as a Project Engineer on the traffic engineering team. Erica joined the City in 2017 as a Project Engineer I freshly out of her undergraduate from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Erica has worked on designing numerous grant-funded projects including intersection improvements at State Street and Alamar Avenue, Canon Perdido Street and Nopal Street, and Upper De La Vina Street, as well as lighting corridor projects. Erica also works integrally with Streets Operations to assist in their daily tasking in their Cartegraph system. Apart from designing, Erica works on translating Streets project communications including Press Releases and website updates for Spanish speakers and readers. In her free time, Erica enjoys reading, collecting (mainly PCs_IYKYK) and picking up new hobbies, as well as enjoying time as a newlywed.
Raina French, Project Engineer I in Land Development

Raina French has been with the City for just over two years in Land Development within the Engineering Division. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Colorado School of Mines and worked as an industrial plant manager in both Denver and Santa Barbara for several years before starting her position with the City. In her Land Development role, Raina assesses private development proposals. You can often find her assisting residents at the Public Works counter. In her free time, she enjoys cross-stitching, biking, reading, and snuggling with her cat Princess Leia.
