Public Bicycle Parking on Hitching Posts

The City provides public bicycle parking (Bicycle Hitching Posts) on City streets for a place to securely lock your bike near commercial areas. City staff is always open to taking requests for bicycle parking in public areas and offering guidance and options for on-site bicycle parking. Watch the video on How to Park Your Bike Right. 

To request a “Bicycle Hitching Post” in front of your favorite shop, restaurant, or other places you frequent, please email SFurtner@SantaBarbaraCA.gov.

Education

The City of Santa Barbara has partnered with MOVE Santa Barbara County to promote education of the rules of the road and basic bicycle handling skills to empower both adults and youth with the confidence to ride safely on City streets.

Bicycle Share Network

On January 28, 2021, the City launched the Bike Share Pilot Program to reduce traffic congestion and parking demand, and to support our City’s sustainability efforts. The Bike Share Pilot Program provides a citywide fleet of electric-assist bikes available for rent in the public right of way.

The City of Santa Barbara currently has two fully enclosed and secure bicycle parking facilities. The larger facility is located in the Granada Garage parking structure at 1219 Anacapa Street. The second location is located at the Downtown Transit Center.

Electric bikes or e-bikes are growing in popularity in Santa Barbara, and are a great active transportation option.
