Santa Barbara Public Library Offers Interactive Van Gogh Experiences
The Santa Barbara Public Library joins partnering community organizations in celebrating Vincent Van Gogh’s contributions to the Art World during the month of March. These Library-provided interactive experiences are inspired by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) exhibition, Through Vincent’s Eyes: Van Gogh and His Sources. SBPL hopes to enrich and extend community member’s visual imaginations, especially during Spring Break, while children and teens are out of school. Events and resources include STEAM programs for youth, storytelling, teen programs, book discussions, and an outdoor family event.
Van Gogh Radial Symmetry Maker Challenge for School Age Children
Learn about how art and science intersect in this floral STEAM activity designed for children in grades K-6. In person Maker Hour events are limited to 12 school-age children, first come, first serve. Alternatively, you can participate in the Maker Challenge by stopping by the Eastside or Central Libraries during open hours to pick up take-home Maker Challenge Kits or complete the project at the library.

Van Gogh Pixel Art for Teens
On Friday, March 18 from 1-3 p.m., teens are welcome to gather in the Upper Level of the Central Library to create Perler bead Van Gogh-inspired creations.
Art and Stories in the Park Family Celebration
On Thursday, March 24 from 10:30 a.m. - noon, families are invited to create public art, listen to art-inspired stories, explore a StoryWalk©, and engage with activities from community partners at Alameda Park near Kids’ World Playground. The Library on the Go Van will be present to provide library services as well.
Paint a Masterpiece for Teens
On Thursday, March 24 from 2-3:30 p.m., an artist will teach teens to create a Van Gogh-inspired painting in a step-by-step, paint-along class on the Eastside Library Patio. Registration recommended to reserve a space.
Sphero Painting for School Age Children
On Friday, March 25 from 2-3 p.m., children in grades 2-6 are invited to program spherical robots to paint a communal masterpiece on the Eastside Library Patio. No paint brushes allowed!
Indy Book Club for Adults
This month's selection is Vincent & Theo: The Van Gogh Brothers by Deborah Heiligman.
