Santa Barbara Police Department Swearing-In Four New Officers
Chief Bernard Melekian will be swearing in four new Santa Barbara Police Officers tomorrow: one lateral Officer and three police academy graduates who have recently completed the Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy.
The ceremony will take place Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 2:00 pm, on the front steps of the Santa Barbara Police Department (215 E. Figueroa Street, Santa Barbara, California).
The three academy graduates completed over 40 learning modules during a 24-week training academy. Some of the topics include cultural diversity, hate crimes, leadership & ethics, racial profiling, principled policing in the community, sexual harassment, terrorism awareness, as well as dozens of criminal law studies and scenario evaluations. These Officers were extensively tested during their time at the law enforcement academy and completed all aspects of training in order to be sworn in as Peace Officers.
Officers’ biographies will be released later the following week, welcoming the newly sworn Officers to our community. The new Officers will soon complete an 18+ week field training program prior to being released to conduct patrol activities.
We welcome members of the media to attend this event.
