UPDATE - Barricaded Subject – 500 North Salsipuedes Street

UPDATE: 9/30/24 at 1:00 p.m. 

The situation in the 500 block of Salsipuedes Street has been resolved, and the male suspect has been taken into custody without further incident. Several emergency vehicles will still be on scene, and the roads in this area will be closed for a short time.

More information will be provided when available. This is still an active investigation.

Santa Barbara Police SWAT Team members and Crisis Negotiations Response Team members are still on scene.

We are still requesting the public stay away from this area until this incident is resolved. Several roads have been closed in the area and alternate routes are advised.

On September 29, 2024, around 8:30 p.m., The Santa Barbara Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Salsipuedes Street for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Over the course of the initial investigation, a male suspect involved in the incident had barricaded himself in the apartment and would not comply with the officer’s commands to surrender. Prior to the suspect barricading himself, the female victim was able to flee and is currently safe.

Santa Barbara Police SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Response Team responded to the scene.

This isolated incident is evolving and under investigation. We are requesting the public stay out of the area. There is currently no threat to surrounding residences and schools.
