Construction Work Notice: Geologic Investigation
The City of Santa Barbara’s Public Works Department is coordinating preliminary geologic investigations in the Vic Trace neighborhood for the City’s upcoming Vic Trace Reservoir Replacement Project. The investigative work involves drilling holes at the reservoir site and along nearby roadways to determine the composition of the soil below the surface. Geologic investigations are typical at the beginning of a project’s design and will ensure the new reservoirs are structurally sound and seismically resilient long term.
From Monday, August 5 through Friday, August 9, geologic investigation will be taking place at the Vic Trace Reservoir site (740 Dolores Drive). Construction activity will be happening along La Coronilla Drive and Dolores Drive from Monday, August 12 through Friday, August 16. Throughout construction, partial lane and parking closures will occur, but access to residential driveways will be maintained. Once work is completed, crews will fill and cover the holes to return the road to its preexisting condition. Please be aware loud noise from drilling operations will occur. Construction hours will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Workdays and hours are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen complications. We appreciate your patience during construction.
Vic Trace Reservoir Replacement Project: Vic Trace Reservoir is a cornerstone of the City’s drinking water delivery system, providing water to nearly 70% of Santa Barbara customers. At almost 80 years old, the reservoir is near its end of useful life, requiring constant repair and replacement. This Project will design and construct new buried reservoirs at the same storage capacity and evaluate work needed at nearby pipelines, valves, and pump stations.
Project Schedule: The Project’s design and environmental phases are underway and are expected to take approximately two years. Onsite reservoir and nearby pipeline construction is not anticipated to start until fall 2027. The City is committed to keeping the community informed throughout the design and construction phases of the Project. Construction impacts to residents and nearby businesses will be communicated in advance.
