On December 5, 2017, City Council adopted an ordinance to add Chapter 9.44 to the Santa Barbara Municipal Code (SBMC) to regulate and permit commercial cannabis businesses City including:

  • Indoor Cultivation
  • Manufacturing
  • Distribution
  • Testing
  • Retailer-Delivery Only
  • Retailer-Storefront

On January 23, 2018, City Council established a limit of three (3) Retail Storefront Commercial Cannabis Businesses and adopted a Resolution establishing the application process and criteria to be used for any permitted commercial cannabis business including Retail Storefront, Retail-Delivery Only, Cultivation, Manufacturing, Distribution, and Testing. The City is not currently taking applications for additional licenses.
