Multiple Agencies Respond to Incident at County Courthouse

Authored on

On July 28, 2023, at 11:53 a.m., the Santa Barbara Police Combined Communications Center received several reports of an adult male that had climbed to the mantel portion of the archway, facing the 1100 block of Anacapa Street at the Santa Barbara County Court House.

First responders from multiple agencies arrived on the scene and verbally contacted the male, who appeared to be in mental health distress. The Police Department's Crisis Negotiations Response Team was able to talk to the man, calm him, and convince him to come down safely. The City Fire Department utilized a ladder truck to assist.

A mental health evaluation was completed once the male was safely on the ground. At this time, no criminal charges are being considered.

Traffic on Anacapa Street was diverted for approximately 45 minutes during the incident.

If you or someone you know needs mental health support, dial 988 or visit www.988lifeline.org any time or day.
