The City’s historic buildings are Santa Barbara’s architectural gems that play a significant part in the heritage of City. Designation of historic structures confers honor and recognition on structures contributing to the City’s unique historical and architectural traditions. The Historic Landmarks Commission (HLC) has been working with City staff to designate prominent and noteworthy buildings in the City as part of their power and duty to protect historic, architectural, archaeological, cultural, and aesthetically significant sites and buildings.
