Implementation of the Westside and Lower West Neighborhoods Transportation Management Plan (Plan) continues through construction of the FY2024B Pavement Maintenance Project (Project) on San Andres Street. As part of the Plan, the Project will both repave and improve roadway safety for the community.

Phase one of the Project is now complete. This phase consisted of sidewalk repairs along San Andres Street, between Canon Perdido Street and Micheltorena Street, and on side streets along the 600 and 700 blocks of Sola and Anapamu Steets, and the 700 block of Victoria Street.

Phase two of the Project is now underway, with Granite Construction Company constructing this phase of the Project, focusing on intersection safety improvements for pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles through the addition of curb extensions, rapid flashing beacons, and better lighting at intersections along San Andres Street.

Traffic impacts during phase two of the Project should be anticipated including road closures and detours along San Andres Street to ensure a safe work zone for the traveling public and the construction crews. Roadway closures will be one direction at a time. Advanced warning will be given to the traveling public via electronic message boards placed on the roadway shoulder.

Phase two is anticipated to take approximately two months, with completion in mid-March 2025. Phase three of the Project will occur once phase two is completed. Phase three will include the following improvements:

  • Roadway replacement, including street repaving/restriping on the following streets:
    • San Andres Street, from Canon Perdido to Micheltorena Streets
    • Canon Perdido Street, from Marilla Avenue to Wentworth Avenue
  • Adding midblock lighting on San Andres Street (from Carrillo to Micheltorena Streets)

Phase three is anticipated to be completed in April 2025.

Please see the San Andres Street Construction Map.

This Project is funded through various sources, including the Measure A Safe Routes to School Program Grant, a Highway Safety Improvement Program Grant for intersection upgrades, and Measure C funds for sidewalk repairs and street repaving.

For more information about the safety enhancements, visit the Westside and Lower West Neighborhoods Transportation Management Plan website.

Thank you for your patience as we work together to create safer streets for our community.
