Upcoming City Council Discussion – Single Family Streamlining Project

Authored on
Body

On June 17, 2025, City planning staff will brief the City Council on the Single Family Streamlining Project—an initiative aimed at updating the Single Family Design Board (SFDB) review process and zoning ordinance to provide homeowners with greater flexibility for property improvements.

The project builds on extensive policy analysis, including recommendations from the 2020 Novak Report,   to streamline the review process by:

  • Reducing the number of projects requiring SFDB review
  • Expanding administrative  approvals for minor projects
  • Providing more flexibility for home improvements

At the upcoming briefing, City staff will request Council’s comments on the conceptual amendments. Afterward, a draft package of ordinance amendments and design guidelines updates will be released for public review.

Next Steps
The Planning Commission will hold detailed discussions in Fall 2025, with Ordinance Committee and City Council hearings to follow.

Stay tuned for more updates!
