Single Family Streamlining Project - Draft Ordinance and Guidelines Amendments Available for Review
The City of Santa Barbara has released draft ordinance amendments for the Single Family Streamlining Project, whose goal is to streamline and simplify the design review process for single family residential projects. The Project also includes updated Single Family Design Board Guidelines and additional Zoning Ordinance amendments to clean up and clarify existing language and make updates required by State law. These changes are expected to result in faster processing times and reduced complexity while upholding SFDB’s primary goal of ensuring residential projects are compatible with the surrounding neighborhood in size and design. Further, these efforts are in line with the state’s direction in streamlining processes for residential development.
The Single Family Streamlining Project is scheduled for discussion at the December 4, 2025 Planning Commission hearing. City staff will be presenting the proposed ordinance and guidelines amendments prior to returning to Planning Commission in early 2026 for a recommendation that the amendments be forwarded to City Council for adoption.
