Santa Barbara Public Library New Service Hours for Fiscal Year 2022

Authored on
Body

Santa Barbara Public Library is adjusting service hours in response to updated public health guidelines.  All SBPL locations will be closed for the Independence Holiday weekend July 3-July 5, 2021. Book returns will be closed at Central Library as well, but remain open at Eastside, Carpinteria, and Montecito locations. No materials are due at this time.

Beginning July 6th, the Central Library will increase service hours. This schedule of open hours will be in effect for the entirety of Fiscal Year 2022. Due to COVID-19 related budget cuts, Central and Eastside Library will not be returning to pre-pandemic hours this fiscal year.

Central Library will be open to the public:

  • Tuesdays 10 AM - 5 PM
  • Wednesdays 10 AM - 5 PM
  • Thursdays 10 AM - 6 PM
  • Fridays 10 AM - 5 PM
  • Saturdays 10 AM - 5 PM

The Library will no longer have capacity limits or time limits. All in person services will resume, including computer use, room rentals, reference, readers’ advisory, assistance with account questions, use of the microfilm machine, SBPL Works! appointments for job seekers, use of the Adult Education Center, drop-in mobile device assistance, and computer coaching. Library staff will continue to offer many of the new services developed in response to the pandemic, including the Book Match service, Homebound Delivery service, lending laptops and hotspots, and virtual storytimes.

The Library will continue to require masks to be worn by all patrons 2 years of age and older at all times when inside Library buildings. Though Public Health guidelines have relaxed requirements for wearing masks in many settings, businesses and organizations may also continue to require masks for people regardless of vaccination status and there are still several exceptions that require even vaccinated individuals to wear masks, including childcare and school settings. Because a significant portion of visitors to the Library are children under the age of 12 who can’t yet receive a vaccination, Santa Barbara Public Library will continue to follow the guidelines for similar facilities, and offer alternative modes of service delivery for those who cannot wear masks.

In addition to our increase in open hours, patrons can access Library services, collections, and programs at Library on the Go outreach van stops. Visit the events calendar for times and locations for Library on the Go.

Eastside Library and the County Library locations in Montecito and Carpinteria will be increasing their open hours at the end of summer, and remain the same for now.
