Library Advisory Committee - County of Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors created a county-wide Library Advisory Committee so that representatives of communities with libraries operating as part of the regional free library system can review and make recommendations about library issues. Each contracting city may nominate one citizen from its community toserve as a member of the Committee. The term limits are one-year, beginning on July 1 and ending June 30 of the following year.

Candidates must reside within the City of Santa Barbara. Appointments are for one-year terms which run from July 1 to June 30 each year.

Representatives to the County Library Advisory Committee meet at least quarterly to review services and operations, and to make advisory recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. In this way, the Committee helps the Board:

  • Ensure adequate library services to all the inhabitants of the County of Santa Barbara;
  • Review annually the operation of the library system and this Agreement;
  • Submit advisory recommendations to insure adequate service to branch libraries;
  • Ensure adequate exchange of information among libraries;
  • Determine the level of service necessary to insure adequate library services for all the residents of the County;
  • Consider site locations and building programs;
  • Receive notices of reductions to the level of library services; and
  • Receive citizen input regarding library-related issues and make recommendations thereon.

The Library Board and the Santa Barbara City Council invite applications for a City of Santa Barbara representative to the Committee. Appointment of the prospective representative will be made by the City Council with final confirmation made by the County Board of Supervisors.
