Authored on

At around 10:56 am on Friday, May 13th, the Santa Barbara Police Department Combined Communications Center received reports of a possible structure fire in the 500 block of West Canon Perdido Street. The Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded with three fire engines, one truck company, and a Battalion Chief. While responding, resources were advised of a possible victim inside the residence.

The first arriving engine company reported light smoke showing from the residence and declared a “working fire.” Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and searched for any possible victims. Firefighters located the unaccounted-for resident and quickly removed the patient from the structure. Santa Barbara Police Officers were on scene and assisted firefighters in transferring the patient to the awaiting paramedics from AMR.

Fire personnel assisted with patient care during transport to a local hospital. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.

Firefighters continued with a search of the building and did not locate any additional victims. Firefighters had the fire under control within minutes. There was no further extension to nearby homes and no other civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

Southern California Edison and the SoCal Gas Company responded to secure their respective utilities.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau, and damages were estimated at approximately $7500 dollars.
