Suspicious Subject Arrested on Multiple Charges

On March 19, 2023, at 10:17 a.m., the Santa Barbara Police Department received a 9-1-1 call about a subject that appeared to have entered several properties illegally, broke into two vehicles, and damaged property around 800 East Ortega Street and 600 North Milpas Street. 

Officers arrived and contacted a subject exiting through a window of a business in the 800 block of East Ortega Street. The subject attempted to flee from officers but was quickly detained.

The subject was identified as Phillip Spencer Vinke, a 37-year-old transient. He was arrested for commercial burglary, two vehicle burglaries, vehicle tampering, and vandalism. Vinke was booked in Santa Barbara County Jail, bail was set at $20,000.
