Beach City Apartment Complex Fire: Swift Response by Santa Barbara City Fire Department

Authored on

On Saturday September 9, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Santa Barbara Police Department Combined Communications Center received a call, reporting a fire on the 800 block of Cliff Drive.

The Santa Barbara City Fire Department deployed a total of six fire engines, one truck, and one battalion chief to address the situation at the Beach City Apartment complex at 805 Cliff Drive. Fire crews worked tirelessly to suppress the blaze, preventing its spread and further destruction to the complex. Approximately 20 minutes later, crews reported that the fire was under control.

Fire investigation arrived on scene and confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in the attic space. A comprehensive investigation is currently underway to determine the exact origin and the extent of the electrical issues that led to this incident.

Beach City Student-Housing Complex management coordinated with fire officials to assess the damage. In addition to apartments damaged by the fire, downstairs units received water damage.

Fortunately, all residents were safely evacuated, and there have been no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.

Safety inspections will be conducted to ensure that all systems are in proper working order before residents are permitted to reoccupy their units.

We commend the rapid response and professional efforts of the City Fire Department, as well as the collaboration from residents.
