Body

Starting Sunday, November 17, Lash Construction, Inc. will conduct nighttime paving on the 1000 block of Chapala Street. This work will occur nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and continue through Wednesday morning, November 20.

What to Expect:
•    Paving Work: Crews will grind off existing asphalt and apply a new asphalt overlay. Fresh road markings and striping will be added approximately three weeks after paving.
•    Traffic Measures: Road closures, detours, and traffic controls will be in place to ensure safety and minimize construction time. Please expect minor delays in the area.
•    Parking Notices: "No Parking" signs will be posted at least 72 hours in advance to ensure space for construction activities.
•    Transit Center Impacts: No disruption of MTD bus service should be expected. The MTD Transit Center's hours of operation will remain unchanged. However, during certain paving activities, buses will queue on Figueroa Street for loading and unloading. MTD will provide guidance to their riders as needed.

Project Background:
Paving Chapala Street is part of the Fiscal Year 2022B Pavement Maintenance Project which improves safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, as well as upgrade street lighting, drainage systems, and roadway maintenance. The Project includes installing ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, repairing damaged sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, and resurfacing the roadway. This Project, awarded by Santa Barbara City Council in 2023, is primarily funded by Measure C.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve our community’s infrastructure.
