Celebrate Santa Barbara’s 22nd Annual Creek Week

This year’s Creek Week celebration is scheduled for September 18 – 25. Creek Week is an annual opportunity for community members to learn more about our local creeks, watersheds, and the ocean through a series of fun and educational events.

Creek Week will kick off on Saturday, September 18 with Coastal Cleanup Day, when community members can join in with volunteers statewide in cleaning up our beaches. If you can’t make it on Saturday, participate on your own time by cleaning up your own neighborhood, favorite park, or the beach.

Participate in a variety of virtual presentations and talks, or join in a bicycle tour of water wise homes. View a falcon demonstration at the Transfer Station, or tour the County’s new ReSource Center. Learn about native plants during a guided creek walk along Phelps Creek, or take a self-guided tour of UCSB’s North Campus Open Space.

To participate in the Storm Drain Chalk Art Contest, grab your sidewalk chalk and create art at your nearest storm drain. Free chalk can be picked up at Art From Scrap (while supplies last) at Garden Street & Cota Street. Store hours are Wednesday – Saturday, 11am – 4pm. Share a photo of your completed artwork on Facebook or Instagram tagged with #sbcreekweek for a chance to win reusable mugs, eco-friendly insulated bags, and gift cards to local businesses.

Creek Week is coordinated by the City of Santa Barbara Creeks Division, County of Santa Barbara Project Clean Water, City of Goleta, City of Carpinteria, University of California, Santa Barbara, and Explore Ecology, with events planned and hosted by many community groups and environmental organizations.
