You're Invited to Attend the Santa Barbara Public Works Meet and Greet on May 8, 2025!

Celebrate National Public Works week on Thursday, May 8th from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Santa Barbara City College Great Meadow Lawn  (map) with Public Works! Meet the Public Works staff and the equipment behind the department, including Streets and Water Resources vehicles, games, demonstrations, job opportunities, and more! This event is perfect for young children to enjoy “Touch a Truck,” and high school and college students to learn more about launching a “Career without debt!” This year’s theme is “People, Purpose, Presence,” highlighting the three cornerstone ideals that motivate public works professionals to serve in their communities every day. The City of Santa Barbara’s Public Works Department keeps our community strong by providing services in transportation, water, fleet vehicles, public buildings, emergency management, engineering and more. Our department consists of over 400 employees who maintain and service:

  • 2,500 streetlights
  • 1,200 crosswalks 
  • 99 miles of storm drains
  • 3,300 parking spaces
  • 478 City fleet vehicles 
  • 79 miles of bike infrastructure
