September Is Rail Safety Month

September marks Rail Safety Month, a critical time to emphasize the importance of safety around train tracks. Here are some key safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Never walk on or along train tracks: It's illegal, considered trespassing, and extremely dangerous.
  • Cross tracks only at designated crossings: Use designated pedestrian or roadway crossings, and always obey all warning signs and signals.
  • Stay alert around tracks: Avoid distractions like listening to headphones or talking on the phone, which could prevent you from hearing an approaching train.
  • Mind the safety line at the station: When boarding, stay behind the marked safety line on the platform and use handholds as you board.
  • Report suspicious activity: If you notice any suspicious items, persons, or activity near the tracks, report it immediately to 911.

By following these guidelines, we can all contribute to a safer environment during Rail Safety Month and throughout the year.

September marks National Preparedness Month, the annual campaign to remind everyone that preparing for emergencies and disasters can keep them, their families, and their communities safe.
