Annual Notice: Erosion, Sedimentation Control, and Stormwater Quality Program

Authored on
Body

This annual informational bulletin outlines guidance on Best Management Practices (BMPs) aimed at reducing erosion, retaining sediment on site, and protecting water quality throughout construction activities. Program information can be found in the Erosion and Sedimentation Control Program Manual.

Key components of the program include:

  • Requirements for standard and detailed erosion control plans, depending on site conditions such as slope and proximity to sensitive areas.
  • Guidance on erosion prevention techniques (e.g. vegetation retention, erosion control matting) and sediment control measures (e.g. silt fences, straw wattles).
  • A list of approved BMP manuals and references for design and implementation.
  • Maintenance obligations and compliance expectations for all BMP installations throughout the construction process.

Contractors and applicants are reminded that BMPs must be installed and functional before any building inspections may occur. The program is a critical tool to support sustainable development while safeguarding Santa Barbara’s natural resources.
