Historic Resources Inventory

The Architectural Historian reviews and completes an assessment to identify if a site or structure should be added to the City's historic resources inventory. In order to assess your property, send an email to the Architectural Historian with current color photographs of the site from the street, and each elevation of the building(s). Internet photos such as Google Maps are not acceptable because they may not show current conditions.

In the majority of instances, the City's Planning Division does not charge for historic evaluation services as a benefit to maintaining historic resources of the City. In some instances, however, the City charges a small administrative fee if the historic evaluation requires more substantive research by the Architectural Historian (more than 1 hour of staff time). 

To verify if the Architectural Historian has already evaluated your property for historic assessment or to determine if your property is a designated historic resource, check out the City's Historic Treasures interactive map. The Historic Treasures map identifies historic properties, and can be searched by address to determine if there is a historic evaluation on file. 

Not all properties in the city have been surveyed to verify if they are historic. If the Historic Treasures map does not have any information about your property, and you have a structure that is 50 years or older, your property must be evaluated in order to identify it as a potential historic resource prior to any proposed addition, alteration, or demolition. 

Any property listed on the City's Historic Resources Inventory may be eligible to join the list of important designated historic structures contributing to the City’s unique historical and architectural traditions. The City recognizes the excellent stewardship of caring for historic resources and provides benefits and incentives to property owners for designated buildings.

For any exterior changes, including window replacement, falls under the review of the Historic Landmarks Commission review. Minor alterations may be approved administratively if specific criteria are met and approved by the Architectural Historian.
