This SOP covers procedures to be performed when it is anticipated that the El Estero Wastewater Treatment Plant will receive high influent flows.

High Flows - Sustained flows over 18 MGD (million gallons per day.)

Overnight staffing will be necessary if flows are sustained.
Procedure
Procedure:
The following steps should be taken when planning for high flows:
- Put all available tanks in service.
- Confirm that all available bar screens are in Automatic mode.
- Put both grit pumps in Hand.
- Confirm primary sludge pumps are working.
Once the plant begins to receive the anticipated high flows, the following steps should be taken:
- Closely monitor the grit system. Monitor the level in the grit hopper. If the hopper is full, call MARBORG to dump the hopper. If MARBORG is unavailable, use a fork lift or loader to push the roll-off bin under the hopper.
- Increase gravity thickener pump rate.
- Suspend belt filter press operation.
- Stack rigs at the digester to increase storage capacity, but only if room is available in the digesters.
- Monitor disinfection and dechlorination.
- Monitor chemical inventory.
