1 Biweekly Safety Meetings

This SOP covers the process for providing safety training to staff to maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local requirements. This SOP is also designed to comply with the City of Santa Barbara's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).

Purpose and scope
Purpose and scope:

Various safety and health laws for U.S. industries have existed for many years. Of these laws, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) of 1970 dominates the legal protection of industrial workers' safety and health. The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) of 1986 requires that covered establishments provide information regarding the types and quantities of hazardous substances held at the site and planned and unplanned releases of these materials.

The Admin Specialist is the coordinator for the Safety Meetings.

Topics for the Safety Meetings are set by the Risk Manager.

Leads or Supervisors will host the meeting, but they may also delegate this responsibility to others.

The Admin Specialist will provide the Sign-In sheet and quizzes for every meeting.

Procedure

Safety Meetings are held every other Wednesday at 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM in the El Estero Wastewater Treatment Plant conference room or break room. The schedule for the Safety Meetings identifying host and topics can be found on the Safety Board in the break room.

  1. The Admin Specialist sends out a meeting notice in Outlook to all plant staff, including Laboratory, Operations, Maintenance, and Collections.
  2. The Host works with the Admin Specialist to gather materials in preparation for the meeting.
  3. Everyone attending the meeting will sign the Sign-In sheet provided by the Admin Specialist.
  4. The Host will introduce the scheduled speakers.
  5. Everyone attending will take a quiz provided by the Admin Specialist.
  6. All employees shall document the safety training on their timecards: 208 for regular employees, and 209 for hourly employees.

The Admin Specialist is responsible for maintaining all records associated with the Safety Meetings, including, but not limited to, all sign-in sheets and quizzes.
