Quality Control/Quality Assurance Activities for the Procedure
Quality Control/Quality Assurance Activities for the Procedure:
  • Record activity to log book.
  • Compare flow rates with the SCADA target rate.
Procedure
Procedure:

1.     Verify Gravity Thickener operation.

a.     Verify that the Gravity Thickener is in service.

b.     Verify that the Gravity Thickener/Elutrient Water isolation valve {tag no. 1501VLV5672} is open.

c.     Check that Gravity Thickener operation is normal.

2.     Unlock and untag the equipment that is being put back into service.

a.     Check the equipment and immediate area to ensure that nonessential items have been removed.  Verify that the equipment and its components are operationally intact.

b.     Check the work area to ensure that all employees are safely positioned or outside the area.

c.     Verify that the controls are in neutral.

d.     Remove the locks, tags and lockout devices and reenergize the equipment.  Reverse the order of the Lockout-Tagout Procedure.  Click here for the Lockout-Tagout SOP.

3.     Verify Suction and Discharge Valve Status.

a.     Open the suction isolation valve for the pump being put into service {tag nos. 1609VLV6100 & 1609VLV6200}.

b.     Open the discharge isolation valve for the pump being put into service {tag nos. 1609VLV6100B & 1609VLV6200B}.

4.     Inspect the pump(s) {tag nos. 1609PMP6100 & 1609PMP6200} to be put into operation.

a.     Make sure nothing is impeding the pump’s motor {tag nos. 1609MTR6100 & 1609MTR6200}. Check for proper movement and rotation of the motor shaft.

b.     Monitor the suction pressure gauge {tag no. 1609PIXXXX & 1609PIXXXX} and discharge pressure gauge {tag no. 1609PI6100 & 1609PI6200}.

c.     The check valve {tag nos. 1609VLV6105 & 1609VLV6205} will not rise during normal operation, due to the typically low flows (30 – 40 gpm).

d.     Verify flow through the magnetic flowmeter {tag no. 1501FE5676} at the transmitter screen {tag no. 1501FI5676}, which is located next to the Elutrient Pump Control Panel.

5.     Verify correct status at the Local Control Panel.

a.     Turn the HOA Switch for the pump being put into service {tag nos. 1609HS6100B & 1609HS6200B} to the AUTO position.

b.     Monitor pump status at the HMI screen.

c.     Monitor pump status at the indicator lights for ready, run and fail conditions {tag nos. 1609YL6100, 1609YL6100A, 1609YL6100B & 1609YL6200, 1609YL6200A, 1609YL6200B}.

6.     SCADA control of Elutrient Pumps.  The HOA switch at the Local Control Panel must be set to the AUTO position in order for SCADA control to work.

a.     View the Sludge Pump Room SCADA screen (click here for a view of that screen).   The Elutrient Pumps are located in the bottom right corner of the screen view.

b.     Verify that the pump is in operation at the SCADA screen.  The pump graphic should be green if it is in operation. If the pump is not in operation, click on START.

c.     Set the pump speed by clicking on the hertz control.  Choose a speed that will provide 30 – 40 gpm pumping capacity.  Monitor the flow rate and continue adjusting the speed as necessary to reach the target flow rate.

7.     Observe Elutrient Pump Operation:

a.     Listen for excessive noise or vibration.

b.     Check for oil or process fluid leaks.

8.     Record Data to Operator’s Log Book:  Record Elutrient Pump activities to the log book with other entries for the day.  Include the following in the entry:

·         Operator(s) that performed the Elutrient Pump SOP.

·         Note condition of equipment, piping, valves, etc.

·         Note any unusual conditions with flows, levels, odors or other process issues.

·         Note any damage, wear, or required maintenance on equipment.
