The Santa Barbara Youth Council was awarded a grant, from the Fund for Santa Barbara, to host the 2024 Youth Speak Out, a workshop that encourages teens to advocate for positive changes in the Santa Barbara community. The Youth Council intends to focus on topics such as participating in environmentally conscious practices, public safety, mental health resources for teens, and how teens can take a more active role in their local government. “The 2024 Youth Speak Out will facilitate proactive dialogue between young people, highlighting the youth perspective on local issues and creating a foundation for change in Santa Barbara,” said Youth Councilmember Amelia Vander May.

The 2024 Youth Speak Out: Teens for Tomorrow will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palm Park Beach House. The roundtable style workshop will bring together teens and local leaders to encourage uplifting the teen voice on local issues. “The teens who attend the event will have a safe environment to share their perspectives while expanding their views and understanding by listening to others,” said Vice-Chair Anastasia Li.

A light lunch and refreshments will be provided. Participating students can receive 2 hours of community service. Be sure to register so we can plan for you!
